Cultural references

  • The episode title is a pun on the film The Parent Trap.
  • As the out-of-control police cruiser heads toward the hot soup truck, the police dog in the back covers his eyes and says, "Ruh-oh!" in a similar manner to Scooby-Doo.
  • Lisa mentions that, as a result of creative sentencing, Bill Clinton is their mailman.
  • "Dang Me" by Roger Miller is the song playing on the car radio at the end of the episode.
  • In addition to the $40 prize for the winning the radio contest, Homer receives a Blue Oyster Cult medallion.
  • "(Don't Fear) The Reaper" by B.O.C. is also played over the closing credits.

  • Professor Frink nearly runs over Bart and Milhouse with his Hover bike. The bike was first seen in Lemon of Troy.
