Cultural references[edit]
- The episode title is a reference to the 1980 prehistoric fiction novel The Clan of the Cave Bear. A film with the same name was released in 1986.
- The prehistoric sequences are a parody of the TV series Primal. In Primal, just like in this episode, extinct dinosaurs, Ice Age mammals, and post-metallurgy Homo sapiens are all coexisting in a single time period.
- Marge points out how Milhouse makes her watch him performing the moonwalk, the famous dance move made famous by Michael Jackson.
- To point out how expensive the location Homer bought was, he shows Marge a video of the kids of British former footballer and businessman David Beckham throwing up in the Front Row Club.
- The third grade were doing a production of West Side Story. The vandalized background Luann reveals is based on the iconic Upper West Side neighborhood in New York City, in which the musical is set.
- Luann criticizes Marge for shopping at Kwik-E-Mart and mentions Swedish Fish, a brand of fish-shaped candy.
- The kindergartners mention they were promised to be taken to see Cocomelon, an American YouTube channel specialized in education and nursery rhymes.
- The app jiggling animation is based on that of iPhone smartphones.
