Cultural references[edit]

  • Starsky and Hutch - At the Cable ACE awards, a voice-over announces that the son of the actor who played Huggy Bear will accept an award. Antonio Fargas played Huggy Bear and his son is Justin Fargas, starting running back for the Oakland Raiders.
  • Close Encounters of the Third Kind - Homer obsessively sculpts a circus tent out of mashed potatoes at the dinner table. Roy Neary does the same thing with the Devils Tower, sculpting it in various media throughout the film, starting with mashed potatoes at the dinner table.
  • When Homer and Krusty are entertaining the Springfield Mafia by riding the tricycle, Homer hits his head on several hanging wine glasses. As his head hits each glass, the ringing sounds like the theme to The Godfather, to the delight of the assembled Mafia members.
  • The way in which Krusty pronounces Cucamonga is a reference to The Jack Benny Show.
  • Fat Tony says, "We need more ammo. Let's go to Big 5." Big 5 Sporting Goods is a real store and does sell ammunition.

Trivia[edit]

  • Krusty has his accountant send three thousand roses to Bea Arthur's grave, even though she was still alive at the time (as his accountant tried to point out). However, Ms. Arthur did eventually pass away in April 2009.
  • In a previous episode, "Homer Goes to College", when Bart learned that Mr. Burns wanted Homer to go to college, he asked, "Barber or Clown?"
  • This episode contains the first major appearance of Fat Tony and his mafia since the season 3 episode, "Bart the Murderer".
  • This episode contained Matt Groening's idea that Krusty was secretly Homer, due to their appearances.
  • Some of the things Krusty burns to light his cigarettes are: a $100 bill, An Action Comics #1 which features the 1st appearance of Superman and a pearl necklace.

Goofs[edit]

  • When Krusty and Homer spin in the loop, Don Vittorio's hair is the same color as Fat Tony's.
  • When Homer first arrives at Milhouse's birthday party, in the first two scenes, Janey is off model and colored in the normal Simpsons yellow.
  • When Chief Wiggum pulls Homer over but lets him off the hook thinking he is Krusty, Wiggum has black hair.
  • When Homer imagines the Springfield Nuclear Power Plant employees as clowns, the one on the far right has an outfit with purple and yellow dots. The two colors of dots repeatedly change places with each other.
  • As Krusty showcases the amusing location names, the word "Seattle" has an "A" after it for a couple of frames.
