• "Suicide Is Painless" by Johnny Mandel: Known better as main theme of M*A*S*H, it plays while Marge is leaving Homer in the helicopter to meet Artie Ziff.
• "Disco Inferno" by The Trammps: Played at Artie's '70s style prom.
• "Precious And Few" by Climax: Also played at the prom.

Cultural references

• Indecent Proposal - The film is punned in the title and referenced throughout the episode.
• The point where Artie is flying Marge away in his helicopter, and Marge sees that Homer has written "KEEP YOUR CLOTHES ON" in rocks, is a callback to the series finale of M*A*S*H ("Goodbye, Farewell and Amen"), in which Capt. Hawkeye Pierce, as his helicopter takes off to fly him homeward, sees that Capt. B.J. Hunnicutt has written out the word "GOODBYE" in rocks.
• Moe says to Artie "I'm a spy, in the house of Moe." This is a reference to the lyric "I'm a spy, in the House of Love" from the song "The Spy" by The Doors.
• The TV series "Nooky in New York" which Marge's sisters watch is a reference to the TV series "Sex and the City".
• Among the paintings of Marge in the room by Artie Ziff we can identify one in the Andy Warhol style, one in the Botticelli style and one in the Roy Lichtenstein style.
• The Baron Von Kiss-A-Lot Castle recalls the Schloss Neuschwanstein in Bavaria.
• The videotape that Homer leaves to Marge is a reference to the movie "Sex, Lies and Videotape".
  • The way Homer explains in the videotape what he saw using Funzo and the dinosaur puppets is the technique used by psychologists to make children relive the traumatic scenes they experienced.
• Comic Book Guy's room is full of Star Wars movies memorabilia, featuring two autographed photos of Mark Hamill (Luke Skywalker) one as a young man, one as an older one.

Continuity

• This episode is a sequel to "The Way We Was".
• Homer has a Funzo to illustrate Marge kissing Artie Ziff. ("Grift of the Magi")

• Homer is also shown to have a loud snore in the comic story Maggie's Crib 11.
• Homer says he's being drinking for 25 years meaning he's being drinking since he was 14 years old. Previous episodes indicate Homer doing underage drinking.
• Professor Frink has goldfish in his shoes much like Disco Stu did in "The Twisted World of Marge Simpson"; however, unlike Disco Stu's fish, Frink's are very much alive.
