- The episode title is a pun on the season 4 episode "Duffless" and a reference to Patty and Selma's decision to quit smoking.
- The episode couch gag is a reference to the animated movie Cars.
- Homer owned a Pontiac GTO, but he went to a musical festival and could not remember where he parked it.
- "Space Cowboy" by Steve Miller Band can be weakly heard just before the car gets destroyed by a combine harvester.
- The song played by Yo-Yo Ma is the Prelude to the Six suites for unaccompanied cello by Johann Sebastian Bach.
- When Yo-Yo-Ma says "There's always room for cello!", he is parodying the advertising slogan, "There's always room for Jell-O."

Trivia
- It is revealed that Clarence Bouvier died of lung cancer. In "Jazzy and the Pussycats", Homer makes a reference to Clarence Bouvier being dead by saying "I know I will use that white noise machine I got you, when your father died." while he was in bed with Marge.
- Maggie's plan's subtitles break the fourth wall: After securing the perimeter, the ground troops will advance and reinforce flanks, as the aerial units will soften their defenses. Then we shall advance in a pincer moment to infiltrate the compound and liberate our friend. If you've read all of this, congratulations, you're a genius!
- Homer also breaks the fourth wall when he told Marge "but that's where we do our couch gags!" when Marge says that Patty and Selma can sleep on the couch.
- Whenever Homer used bleach, it was never seen in the original airing on Sky1, nor Reruns.
- Also, Homer was never seen going in the shower with Patty inside. However, on Channel 4's version in the UK, the scene gets shown but it cuts before Homer jumps out of the shower.
