Cultural references[edit]
- The Heartmark Channel is a parody of Hallmark Channel.
- An Emmy Award can be seen at the Network President office.
- Murder She Braised: The Slow Cooker Killings is a reference to Murder, She Wrote.
- The Simpsons house is working as an Airbnb.
- Mary Tannenbaum's name is a reference to "Tannenbaum" being the German word for "fir tree" and to the Christmas song, "O Tannenbaum".
- The song "Welcome to Our Humble Home" that Bart and Lisa sings to Mary Tannenbaum is a parody of the Christmas carol "Hark! The Herald Angels Sing".
- The Wilhelm scream plays in Bart's treehouse.
- When Marge offers Mary brunch, she mentions Sex and the City.
- Principal Skinner was laughing at a Pearls Before Swine comic strip in the paper.
- Captain McCallister suffers from Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS).
- Mary mentions American actresses Markie Post, Swoosie Kurtz and Annie Potts when talking on the phone.
- The couple on the film A Christmas Ornament for Christmas mentions the location Christmas Creek.
- Homer grinds up white stuff into fake snow to the song "Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow!" by Sammy Cahn and Jule Styne.
- The tune played when Lisa, Maggie, and Bart are trying to sleep is "Brahms' Lullaby" by Johannes Brahms.
- Marge mentions that she found the tea brand that actress Gwyneth Paltrow likes.
- Marge says she thinks the tea is meant to be taken orally, a reference to Paltrow's Goop line of intimate products, some of which are suppositories.
- When Mary says that Christmas is the least wonderful time of the year, Marge says that the song says it's the most wonderful time. This is a reference to the song "It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year" by Andy Williams.
- Mary's father was an extra in the film Jingle All the Way.
- Coincidentally, Chris Parnell, who guest stars in the episode, played a minor character in Jingle All the Way.
- When all the Springfielders desert the movie, a crew member says "I love it when a shoot falls apart" and lights a cigar. This is a reference to character "Hannibal" Smith on The A-Team who smoked cigars and whose catchphrase was "I love it when a plan comes together", spoken when a plan falls apart.
Goofs[edit]
- The posters in the frames in The Heartmark Channel office are impossible to make out due to the glassy effect over them when Mary enters the room.
- The Springfield Mall doesn't have the sign on the front of it.
