Marge goes about her day but doesn't feel appreciated by anybody. She ends up taking Santa's Little Helper to the vet, and Bart to hospital. She also repeatedly tries to call and leave messages for Homer on his phone, but Homer doesn't receive them as Moe was using a jammer to block phone signals. While Homer, Lenny, and Carl are messing around, Homer rips his pants. When Moe breaks the jammer trying to shoot a rat, Homer gets the messages and realizes that Marge has been trying to get hold of him all day. He rushes home and Marge is angry at him for ignoring her calls. Homer then asks Marge to repair his pants before he goes to bed.

The next day, Marge is watching Trash for Cash while fixing Homer's pants. On the show, a woman sells an identical pair of Leevi's pants for $2,600. Marge then decides to tell Homer that she couldn't repair her pants and Homer wears sweatpants to work instead. Meanwhile, Marge takes Homer's pants to The Haber-Cashery where she sells them to Collectible Pants Dude for $2,595. At the Power Plant, Mr. Burns and Smithers watch Oppenheimer and Burns tells Smithers that he wants to be better than Oppenheimer. Burns takes several of his employees to the reactor core where other employees are putting small amounts of fissionable uranium around the demon core with the intention of stopping just before it hits critical mass. However, they add too much and the plant starts to go into meltdown. As everyone struggled in their bulky suits, Homer runs into the core and removes a block of uranium, stopping the meltdown. Mr. Burns then gives Homer two tickets to a baseball game as a reward.

Homer gets back home drunk and with his pants ripped apart, and Marge is very angry. Later, while watching Trash for Cash, she's much stressed but finds out she can bid Homer's pants for lots of money, so she lies to Homer about not being able to fix the pants and hides them in her hair. However, as he thinks about how much Marge does for him, he realizes that Marge deserves to have the ring. He slips the ring onto Marge's finger as she was asleep and tells her that he wished he had bought the ring for her to show her how much she means to him. The next day, Marge feels like she can no longer feel guilty about buying the ring. Marge arrives at Abercrombie & Rich, but is not happy. After giving some money to the church, she tries to call Homer, but gets angry at not being invited to the baseball game, and changes idea on telling him about the money. Her next destination is Spiffany's, where she asks to buy the biggest ring she can buy with the money to Yes Guy.

She gets guiltier and guiltier till she gets home, removes the ring and gets a guilt rash, and she tries to hide it everywhere, till she hides it in the attic, where she gets scared first by Lisa looking for her report cards, then Bart hiding in there from the cops, having pulled a prank on their car, and then Maggie, which doesn't judge her, using it as a pacifier.

At the Tavern, Homer starts to think he doesn't appreciate Marge enough, and Moe points to him, with a song, how he's a selfish guy, before throwing him out. Back at home, Marge leaves the ring near the stairs, where Homer finds them, calling her selfish, before considering all the things she does for them, and puts the ring back on her finger, having one last beautiful moment in bed. Later on the news, Kent Brockman gives the news that Amnesty International declared the blue blood diamond is the most unethically mined gem, and Marge decides to wear it on the inside.
