"The Incredible Lightness of Being a Baby" is the eighteenth episode of season 31 of The Simpsons and the six-hundred and eightieth episode overall. It originally aired on April 19, 2020. The episode was written by Tom Gammill and Max Pross and directed by Bob Anderson.
Synopsis[edit]
- "Marge won't let Maggie play with her new baby crush because of his annoying mother, leading Maggie into a depressive spiral. Meanwhile, Mr. Burns tasks Homer with swindling Cletus out of his helium fortune."
Plot[edit]
Marge takes Maggie on a stroll at the park, and seeing the first park is on horrible conditions, take her to the Sand Tropez park, where she finds Hudson and Marge meets his mother, Courtney.
At home, Homer says no to pancakes and yes to a grape fruit, feigning starting a diet, but when he drives away, he takes out pizza, after throwing the fruit into the stadium.
Due to the grease in the pizza, on the way to work, he however crashes into a tree, getting late for work. He finds Cletus next to the crash site and buys balloons from him, and takes them to work, where Mr. Burns finds happiness in the gift of helium, making him employee of the month.
Mr. Burns goes to Cletus's farm to make a deal with him and start drinking his Moonshine disorienting Burns, but finds Homer to be the candidate to cheat on him.
Marge takes Maggie to Hudson's family fancy house, but his mother's weird actions forces Marge to take Maggie away from them and to not take her back there. Homer arrives at the place where Cletus is gathering helium.
Homer convinces Cletus on Burns' plan and have fun with him fishing and with his family for lunch, with Cletus announcing he's part of the family. Homer takes his concerns to Marge, while Maggie finds Hudson's invitation to his birthday party, with Marge telling her the reasons for her not going to it, upsetting her.
Homer takes Burns' contract to Cletus to sign, but he stops him from signing at the last moment. Burns tries to force him to sign but the Spuckler family points their shotgun at him, and as such they'll pay a fair price for it.
In the end, to make Maggie happy, Marge takes her to the sad Hudson and reconciles with his mother, while Homer and Cletus sing a best friend song.
Production[edit]
It was scheduled to air on April 7, 2019, but "I'm Just a Girl Who Can't Say D'oh" aired instead on that date. The episode was scheduled for Fall 2019, in the next season, but then put on indefinite hold for unreleased reasons.[1][2][3] It later aired on April 19, 2020,[4] when it aired after the short Playdate with Destiny was released, which also featured Maggie's baby crush.[5][6]
