"Habeas Tortoise" is the first episode of season 34 of The Simpsons and the seven-hundred and twenty-ninth episode overall. It originally aired on September 25, 2022. The episode was written by Broti Gupta and directed by Matthew Faughnan. It guest stars Joe Mantegna as Fat Tony.
Synopsis
- "After public humiliation forces him to doubt his own intelligence, Homer forms an internet group devoted to solving the mystery behind the disappearance of a tortoise from the Springfield Zoo but finds something much more sinister."
Plot
Mayor Quimby is holding a debate about no longer celebrating Columbus Day due to Christopher Columbus' problematic behavior, and everyone agrees except the people of Italian origins. Afterwards, he lets Helen Lovejoy takes the stand, debating over DYI free libraries appearing all over town, debating over the possibility of them holding books like the Kamasutra. Homer stands up proposing to take them all in one place where everyone can read them, and people laughs in his face to his proposal of creating a library, where the debate is being held.
To make Homer feel better, Marge takes the whole family to the Springfield Zoo.
