- The projection Professor Frink analyses is a reference to the assassination of John F. Kennedy.
- When Lionel Hutz is tempted of drinking alcohol, he calls the American singer-songwriter David Crosby, who is holding a Crosby, Stills & Nash album. Crosby spent time in rehabilitation to overcome his addiction to alcohol.
- Apu can recite pi to 40,000 places, however, he gets the last digit wrong, as it should be 5, not 1
- Hutz is wearing a tie with a Windsor knot.
- Lisa compares Lionel Hutz to Clarence Darrow, the famous American lawyer. However, Hutz did not know him and asks Lisa if he was "the black guy on The Mod Squad". He was thinking of Clarence Williams III instead of Clarence Darrow.
- Tattoo Annie shows her MAD fold-in tattoo. The fold-in also says Alfred E. Neuman's famous quote "What, me worry?".
- Homer hums the "Bridal Chorus" by Richard Wagner while he is wearing Marge's wedding dress.
- Springfield is not able to buy a statue of Abraham Lincoln and buys a Jimmy Carter statue instead.
- The sign "Malaise Forever" on the statue is a reference to the famous "Malaise" speech of Jimmy Carter.
- "Hail to the Chief", the personal anthem of the President of the United States, is heard at the end of the episode.
