Synopsis[edit]
- Bart and Lisa adopt an abandoned baby chimp and clash over their surprisingly different parenting styles. When the chimp is abducted by a private wild animal zoo, the family goes on a mission to rescue him. Homer is conflicted about saving the ape, because he's convinced the chimp will tear off his face and groin.
Plot[edit]
At the First Church of Springfield, the kids watch the story of Moses at Sunday school, and after asking which of the Ten Commandments Ms. Albright's husband broke, she has them watch The Itchy & Scratchy Show episode "The Greatest Gory Ever Told", where Itchy and Scratchy are shilling for God instead of being their usual gory selves.
Krusty asks Larry H. Lawyer, Jr. why this happened and is told they are in the public domain because their copyright has expired, so he suggests putting a spin on his original characters to protect his IP and creates Krusty Babies!, but the babies and the chimp don't follow his orders, so he fires them. The chimp is placed into a book house where Bart and Lisa find it and take it home, leaving a squirrel in exchange.
They take the chimp home, naming him Mr. Goodboy, and Homer and Marge think they'll grow out of it and let them keep it. Bart takes him to school, where he pranks the other kids but hurts him in the process. Lisa instead reads on how to be a parent from a book her parents never read. Then at night, they make him take a bath, and Homer and Marge worry that they've become responsible for it. However, the video scares Homer when it says that an adult monkey will attack humans if provoked, especially if he finds them as a rival.
In the kids' room, Marge refuses to let Mr. Goodboy take her wedding ring, pointing out how Homer is the man of the house. Meanwhile, the kids start fighting over Bart being too overprotective and Lisa's belief in the book, which says to let the kid try and fall to learn. On the hammock, Homer starts dreaming of losing his face and then getting treated at the hospital, where they plant his face on his groin instead, being treated by monkey surgeons.
Homer starts browsing for protective pieces to protect his face and groin while the kids fight over the chimp stealing Maggie's pacifier. After a talk with the parents, they decide to take therapy at school in Elizabeth Story's office, but find Nelson instead, since Elizabeth got defunded. They reconcile, but then when they come out, Mr. Goodboy is gone.
After coming home from having no success finding him at school, Bart remembers he put a tracker on him and finds out he's in a compound, the Freedom Chimps, "libertarian cackyard safari and doomsday shooting range", a zoo that exploits animals for money. At the zoo, they find documentary crews and Mr. Goodboy. Lisa tosses him the keys to the cage, and he lets out all the other monkeys too, and they start circling them.
To get them out of it, Homer unlocks the lock to his groin, attracting them. He starts running away and hides underneath a turtle in its cage to safety. The zoo gets closed for violating 30 regulations, and Ape Solutions closes it, taking the animals to a wildlife sanctuary. Bart and Lisa find out the owners are brother and sister and, imagining themselves in the same situation, they let Mr. Goodboy go to the sanctuary with the other monkeys. In the end, Homer tries to get a reptile out of the machine but fails, getting angry at it.
