Playdate with Destiny is an animated short film starring Maggie Simpson. The short will air from March 6, 2020 onwards before showings before the Pixar film Onward.[1][2] It was released on Disney+ on April 10, 2020.

Plot

Marge takes Maggie to the Not Responsible for Injuries Park, where she leaves her next to a slide and sits next to other mothers reading books.

A kid almost slams into her back before she gets saved by Hudson. They start having fun, riding on horses, drinking at a beach, watching the sunset, eating a fancy dinner, all with their imagination in the playground.

They end their fun playing hide and seek with their hands before Hudson's mother comes and take him home. At night, the characters in the book Maggie was reading come to life in her dreams, all having Hudson's head.

She wakes up, having fallen in love, and starts dressing up for their next meeting, but this time it's Homer driving her, and they end up at the Broken Ankle Park.

There, she tries to get Hudson attention over the wall but fails and gets mad at Homer. Over night she stays up late and gets a plan ready for the next day: she stops Homer from driving and turns the car around.

After parking, she sees Hudson getting on the train and runs for it but fails to get on, but the train track is short and comes around.

Hudson catches her on the front, and when she tries to kiss her, he puts the sucker in her mouth, and Maggie does the same.

Production

After Tom Gammill and Max Pross wrote "The Incredible Lightness of Being a Baby", James L. Brooks they could turn the part of the story about Maggie's relationship with Hudson into a theatrical short. Whilst the short was being worked on, "The Incredible Lightness of Being a Baby" was delayed.[3] "The Incredible Lightness of Being a Baby" was later scheduled to air on April 19, 9 days after Playdate with Destiny released on Disney+.[4]
