Cultural references
- The episode title is a reference to the term "YOLO", an acronym for "you only live once". The word is mentioned several times in the episode as is the number plate on Kirk Van Houten's car.
Goofs
- This episode contains a considerable number of mistakes in relation to Spain, as in the USA they still think that Spain is the same as Mexico. Also, the Sagrada Família is not located in a middle of a forest, actually, there's not so much vegetation around it because it is located in the middle of Barcelona.
- One of Homer's childhood dreams was to ride on the back of a fire truck; however, he was a member of Springfield's volunteer fire department in "Crook and Ladder", so he should have achieved this one.
