- The episode's chalkboard gag refers to the Fifth Amendment to the United States Constitution which focuses on criminal procedures.
- The queue line at H₂WHOA! resemblances the lithograph Ascending and Descending by Dutch graphic artist M. C. Escher.
- The way Krusty removes the clown make-up from his face resembles the way The Joker removes his make-up in the 1989 film Batman.
- Homer says he is going on a diet and then cites "As God is my witness, I'll always be hungry again!". This is a parody of a phrase said by Scarlett O'Hara (Vivien Leigh) in the film Gone with the Wind. The original phrase being "As God is my witness, I'll never be hungry again!".
- The workout video Gee, Your Pecs Look Terrific is a reference to Gee, Your Hair Smells Terrific, a shampoo brand that was popular in the USA in the 1970s and 1980s.
- In one of the paintings, Ringo Starr is wearing his iconic uniform from Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band.

- Homer weighs 239lbs in this episode; he was the same weight in "Homer's Night Out" and "King-Size Homer". By the end of the episode he is down to 225 pounds.
- When Carl Carlson speaks in the episode, it is Lenny's voice actor.
- Before Bart and Lisa enter the water slide, Lisa is briefly missing her eyes.
- When Krusty was being pressed by News Reporters about the incident at Mt. Splashmore with the H2WHOA!! and his attempts at driving them away, he apparently wipes away the "white makeup" on his head, despite the fact that it was implied in "Homer's Triple Bypass" that Krusty's bypass surgery that gave him a pacemaker permanently bleached his skin white.
