- The title is a parody of the 1979 film The Great Santini.
- Lisa and Ewell Freestone mention the National Public Radio (NPR) at Freestone Family Peach Orchard.
- Marge prepares BLT sandwiches with peaches.
- Lisa thinks the neighbourhood she visits stated to look like Sesame Street. She also mentions Oscar the Grouch when a trash shakes.
- The Great Raymondo has a bust of Houdini in his house.
- Raymondo says that Houdini handed down the Great Milk Can Escape illusion to him. The Milk Can Escape was one of Houdini's notable escape acts.
- The name of the musical automaton, Ali Rudy Vallée, is based on Rudy Vallée, an American singer, musician, actor, and radio host.
- The automaton plays a part of "Three Little Fishies" by Kay Kyser.
- Raymondo thought he could teach a girl how to perform magic tricks because "Blackstone taught a monkey". He is referring to Harry Blackstone Sr., a famed stage magician and illusionist of the 20th century.
- Abe says that Raymondo was great for turning the Secretary of Agriculture into the Secretary of the Interior.

- When Homer goes to the theater with the family, he doesn't have a jacket. He then suddenly does, which gets stolen. He then wears the jacket in the theater.
