Cultural references
- The title screen gag is a reference to the discontinuation of the Space Shuttle in 2011.
- The plot to the episode is similar to the plot of The Red Violin.
- Lisa mentions that Milhouse wears a Finding Nemo back brace.
- The Persian storyteller tells the story of Ali Baba and How the Camel Got His Hump to the Persian king.
- Michelangelo's painting is the Sistine Chapel ceiling.
- The Wriggles CD that Milhouse owns is a parody of The Wiggles.
Music
- At the beginning of the episode, the song playing in Moe's Tavern is "All Night Long (All Night)" by Lionel Richie.
- Homer is seen dancing on the wall and then on the ceiling, a reference to "Dancing on the Ceiling", another Lionel Richie song.
- The music playing when Moe says the bar rag is his best friend and then hugs it is from A Charlie Brown Christmas.
- The song at the end is from Forrest Gump.
Continuity
- A picture of the Pin Pals is seen in Moe's Tavern. ("Team Homer")
Goofs
- In the scene where Marge comes up from the basement with laundry, the basement is in the wrong place and is under the stairs where a closet should be.
- Oil and beer have been poured on the bar, but when Moe throws his rag onto the bar, the oil and beer have disappeared.
- When Moe throws the bar rag out the window, there is a shot of the back of the family (with Moe and Milhouse) walking away from the window. Milhouse has his normal clothes on, despite entering the Simpson House with his pajamas still on.
- There is one shot of the Van Houten House in this episode which is different to the design of the house in other shots.
