Cultural references
- The episode title is a reference to John Steinbeck's final novel, published in 1961, The Winter of Our Discontent.
- The Itchy & Scratchy Show episode, "Downton Tabby", is a parody of Downton Abbey, which was previously parodied in the Season 24 episode, "Dangers on a Train".
- Some of the bully groups names are: The Blink Sneaks, Krusty's Kids, the Purple Nurples, Scary Potters and the Baseball Furries.
- The Purple Nurples are a reference to the bully attack of doing so.
- The Scary Potters are a reference to Harry Potter.
- The Baseball Furries are a reference to a gang in the 1979 movie "The Warriors" called The Baseball Furies only with furry mascots.
- A Shrek doll makes an appearance and says "Donkey!" when stepped on.
- The bully summit was based on the 1979 movie "The Warriors".
