Springfield Elementary's Annual Science Fair
School Science Fair

The School Science Fair was a science fair held at Springfield Elementary School.

History[edit]

In a dream about the School Science Fair, Bart created a weapon called Go-Go Ray. Bart's "Go-Go Ray" gun settings included a variety of fad dances. These included The Jerk, The Monkey, The Mashed Potato, The Swim, and The Freddie. He demonstrated the gun to Principal Skinner using The Mashed Potato on him, The Monkey for Edna Krabappel, The Freddie for J. Loren Pryor, The Swim for Elizabeth Hoover, and The Jerk for Dewey Largo. Skinner loved Bart's project and awarded him first prize, but Lisa woke Bart up, revealing that he was still in bed.

Other projects seen in his dream included "Static Electricity," "How Soap is Made" by Sophie Jensen, "What's Inside a Golf Ball?," "The Human Brain" by Buck-toothed boy, and "Adventures in Microwaves."[1]

For that year's real science fair, Lisa created a mutant tomato, which she called the Futuristic Tomato. She grew the tomato by fertilizing it with anabolic steroids. But days before the fair, Bart hurled the tomato at Skinner, so she had to change her project. Lisa appealed to her mother for help, who suggested that she run a hamster through a maze. She took the idea to heart, but instead of just testing the intelligence of a rodent, she pitted a hamster against an unsuspecting Bart to find out who was smarter. She documented the results in a project titled "Is My Brother Dumber Than a Hamster?"

At the science fair, both Lisa's project and her chance for revenge were ruined by Bart's project: "Miracle Of Science: Can Hamsters Fly Planes?" Lisa tried to protest that the project had no scientific merit, but everyone ignored her. A hamster flying a miniature plane won over Skinner, who handed Bart the winning ribbon, much to Lisa's dismay.

Other projects included "How Gravity Works" by Milhouse, "Volcanoes" by Chuck Berger, "Phileas Fogg, Around the World in 80 Days" by Martin, "Wasting Squirrels with B.B. Guns" by Nelson, "Alcohol-Fueled Car" by Ralph, and "Evolution? Teaching Theory as Fact!"[1]
