In a hunt for [[Bigfoot]] after discovering a bad smell in the area, [[Bart]] climbs to the top of [[Mt. Springfield]] with [[Milhouse]]. They find the source of the smell to be [[Cletus]], who is burning tires. Bart tells Milhouse that he has come up with a good prank, and goes home to trick Homer. He tells him to look towards the mountain and tells him that the smoke from the tire fire is from a volcano that has become active. Homer becomes afraid and tells to the family that they must flee. Homer drives off with full throttle after he starts the car with the family, but gets stopped by [[Clancy Wiggum]]. He says he accelerates because he wants to avoid the volcano and shows Clancy the smoke from Mt. Springfield. Clancy begins to spread the word via his police radio, and the TV broadcasts were interrupted, with an alert revealing that the volcano is active and invites viewers to evacuate the city. All of Springfield become desperate: [[Moe]] asks his friends to pay their debts, [[Comic Book Guy]] thinks about what comics he will retain and [[Joe Quimby]] how much money he needs. [[Arnie Pye]] wants to appear as a hero and heads to the volcano via helicopter and discovers the true source of the smoke. This soon spreads and everyone gets mad at Homer and start to leave the reservoir. Homer tells the family that it was Bart who lied to him and Lisa tells Bart that she thinks he should be ashamed. Marge decides that the girls should go home in [[Otto]]'s school bus. In the Name of Lava! is a comic story first printed in Simpsons Comics #152.

Plot
