When Homer buys the Duff Book of World Records he bores everyone with his world record trivia. He then decides to break a record himself. He gathers the entire town to help him and they build the world's tallest human pyramid. Just before the record is claimed, Jimbo and Kearney move the hands, the pyramid collapses into a giant sphere. The town's people then roll to a truck wrighing station and the Duff world record officials say that Springfield is the world's fattest town.

Homer then persuades the town to try to set a record for the world's tallest human pyramid, but when Jimbo and Kearney's hands touch, they pull them back in revulsion causing the entire town of people to collapse and form a giant ball. The ball rolls down a steep hill (inadvertadly saving a man trying to commit suicide) and land on a truck depot scale were the officials after doing some calculation based on the number of people declare Springfield the worlds fattest town.

The townsfolk are delighted to have made it into the world record's book. Marge then worries that the whole town is overweight and discovers that sugar is almost in everything that the residents eat. She complains to Garth Motherloving, who owns the Motherloving  Sweets and Sugar Company . After speaking to Garth, Marge decides to sue the sugar industry. After being bribed by Garth (with a box of chocolates), Judge Roy Snyder sides with Marge and bans sugar; enraging Homer and most of the town.

Chief Wiggum burns all of the sugary products and the whole town goes crazy. Apu shows Homer a secret orgranisation of people trying to smuggle sugar into Springfield. The head of it is Garth Motherloving. When they arrive back in Springfield, a police boat chases the sugar loaded boat but the sugar smugglers escape. Homer dumps the sugar into the water and the people of Springfield jump into the water.

Furious, she decides to go up to the Motherloving Sugar Corp.'s Headquarters to lodge her complaint after she finds out that every single food item sold in the town is packed with sugar. The owner, Garth Motherloving, ends up being less than cooperative, so Marge decides to file a class action lawsuit. Professor Frink blows the whistle on "big sugar" and the court rules in Marge's favor and then bans all sugar from Springfield forever. All the town's sugar products are burned and Apu's store shelves are empty. Apu brings Homer into a group determined to smuggle sugar back into Springfield. Homer and Bart join with Apu, Mr. Burns, Count Fudgula and Garth Mothelovering in a scheme to smuggle in sugar from the island of San Glucose. They get the sugar (for free because of a badly written contract) and make it into Springfield Harbor, but are intercepted by the police. Evading Wiggum and Co., Homer finds himself faced with the decision to either "Dump Cargo" to make Marge happy or "Obey Bad Guy" and bring sugar to Springfield. He chooses the former, dumping all of the sugar into the ocean. The town soon realizes his action and takes advantage of the opportunity by jumping into the ocean and drinking the sugared water. Judge Snyder then realizes that he's overstepped his authority and makes sugar legal in Springfield once again.

Synopsis[edit]

"When Springfield is named the "World's Fattest Town", thanks to a diabolical scheme by the Motherloving Sugar Corp., Marge takes it upon herself to rid the entire town of the sweet stuff."

Plot[edit]

The family goes to the library's used book sale; where Marge manages to entice the normally book hating Homer into buying a copy of Duff Book of World Records. When he's gone through all the records, he decides to set one of his own. Duff tells him that all the personal records have been set, and that he needs to help set a group record.

The town are soon celebrating their collective obesity, but Marge is the only person that has a problem with it.
