The Once and Future Bartman Part One: Alpha and D'oh-Mega is a Simpsons Comics One-Shot Wonders story first printed in Bartman Spectacularly Super Secret Saga #1.
Synopsis[edit]
- In the future, Bartman faces an enemy from his past, Numero Uno, the one villain who got away.
Plot[edit]
Over twenty years in the future at Springfield Elementary School, Jeremy Jailbird is running away from Bartman. Bartman catches him and demands to know why the Prince of Crime wanted Jeremy to sabotage the school's plumbing. Jeremy tells Bartman that he doesn't work for the Prince, but someone else hired him as a decoy. Bartman then finds out from Principal Skinner and Mega-Intendent Chalmers that the math decathlon trophy, the last major award the school ever won, had been stolen. A news update then comes out saying that Lamarcus Duffman, the last Duffman, has been kidnapped. Bartman goes to the Springfield Town Hall to meet with Mayor Lisa Simpson, where he realizes that the criminal has been stealing the last items of their kind. Lisa suggests that the Prince of Crime is behind it, but Bartman doesn't think so as he thinks it's someone from the past.
Twenty years earlier, Bartman and Houseboy are rushing to The Android's Dungeon to deal with a crime. Comic Book Guy reveals that somebody stole his mint condition copy of Radioactive Man #1. The criminal left a note which led Bartman and Houseboy to the Springfield Historical Society, where they found that the First Constitution of Springfield was stolen and they later found that Mr. Burns' original plutonium rods had also been stolen. This led them to believe that the criminal was stealing the firsts of certain items, with Houseboy calling the criminal Numero Uno. Bartman then received a call from Marge who reveals that the criminal stole something from their house. Bart returns home to find that the mini-golf scorecard from Homer and Marge's first date was stolen, leading him to think that someone was targeting his family. After reporting on the theft, Kent Brockman cuts to the unveiling of the Springfield Isotopes Wall of Fame at the Duff Stadium, which contains the team's first award.
In the future, Bartman arrives at the wall and finds that the award, which was the first and last award the team ever received, had been stolen. Gil tries to sell Bartman a bobblehead, which is just a potato on a spring, and Bartman notices a news story on Gil's newspaper suit about the disappearance of Professor Frink. Twenty years earlier, Frink had his first invention, an atomic potato clock, stolen by Numero Uno. To help Bartman and Houseboy defeat Numero Uno, he created the Frinktonium Power Suit, to help train them. The suit could mimic the abilities of all their greatest foes and was powered by Frinktonium, an unstable element he created. When Frink shakes the Frinktonium, he disappears in a puff of smoke. Back in the future, Bartman reads about the Frinktonium Power Suit being unveiled at the Springfield Museum of Natural History.
Bartman goes to the museum and finds an exhibit of Villains of the Past, made up of Dr. Octuplets, ClownFace, Glutenus Maximus, and Gluten Tag. He also sees a statue of himself as a child, thinking that he looked much happier then. He finds the Frinktonium Power Suit just as the Prince of Crime and his henchmen arrive. The Prince of Crime is revealed to be Martin Prince, but he tells Bartman that he's not Numero Uno. He tells Bartman that he wants to steal the Frinktonium Power Suit because the last of anything will skyrocket in value, and he wants more capital for him and his henchmen. As the henchmen keep Bartman distracted, the Prince of Crime puts on the Frinktonium Power Suit and uses the powers of Bartman's past villains against him. As Bartman is fighting the Prince of Crime, Professor Frink appears briefly and tells him that he has to find Houseboy, but disappears before he can say anything else. To defeat the Prince of Crime, Bartman takes a note out of his younger self's playbook and taunts Martin into using all of his previous villains' powers together. The Prince of Crime tries this, but the suit short circuits because it can't handle it. The Springfield Police Department show up to arrest the Prince of Crime and his henchmen, but Bartman suggests that they use Martin's knowledge of the stock market to help get the town out of debt instead of imprisoning him. As Bartman and Martin talk, someone steals the parts of the Frinktonium Power Suit.
Twenty years ago, Houseboy reads a note in Latin from Numero Uno, which says "you won't catch me because I'm a hilarious, well-read man." Bartman thinks that Sideshow Bob is Numero Uno and goes to catch him. However, his hunch turned out to be wrong. In the future, Bartman says that he will make up for his past mistakes and while on camera, says that Numero Uno will not get away. Milhouse, who now sports green Sideshow Bob-like hair and a purple suit, is watching the news broadcast and says that Bartman admitting that he was wrong is a first, before he starts laughing manically.
