Is there anything I can do to help move the wiki? Ldude893 01:08, 7 October 2010 (UTC)

Unless you are good with customising Monobook then, no. The ShoutWiki staff can move all content and images as well as user accounts to this wiki so we shouldn't need to do anything. Thanks for offering. ☆The Solar Dragon☆ 06:30, 7 October 2010 (UTC)
Good for you, damn wikia shoving Oasis down our throats. I moved (am in the process of moving) my Stargate wikia to shout wiki. Escyos 04:16, 11 October 2010 (UTC)

User moving aricles

Hello, Solar. User Ashclaw has copied and pasted some articles from the Wikia Wikisimpsons to here. Should we allow him or tell him to wait for the database dump? — TheHomer (TalkContributions) 16:52, 12 October 2010 (UTC)

I noticed too. I don't mind. These are just copies and will all be moved over anyway. The quicker, the better in my opinion. I am still waiting for the new database dump though. :( ☆The Solar Dragon☆ 17:41, 12 October 2010 (UTC)

Hello there Solar Dragon,
Actually, manually copy/pasting articles might be a problem because they could be copyright violations. That is why the complete article history has to be imported, to avoid issues with copyrights. And the manually copied articles may also clutter up the article history or cause other problems during the import process. --Jedimca0<staff/>(talk) 17:54, 12 October 2010 (UTC)

OK then. I will delete the article. How about the uploaded images? Will those affect anything? Thanks, ☆The Solar Dragon☆ 17:56, 12 October 2010 (UTC)
  • The uploaded images should be fine. --Jedimca0<staff/>(talk) 18:22, 12 October 2010 (UTC)

Moving form wikia

Hello!

I am an admin on 2 wikas and I am thinking of moving away from it. Shoutwiki.com is one of 2 alternatives. Can you, please, tell me why did you choose Shoutwiki as a new server?

User page

Is the database dump going to bring in the user pages too or should I recreate mine? Bshardy 06:04, 31 October 2010 (UTC)

Every page will be imported over, including user pages. However, I am not sure what will happen in the case of already made user pages, e.g. yours and mine. We will have to wait and see. ☆The Solar Dragon☆ 07:09, 31 October 2010 (UTC)

Bob's burgers

No doubt you have seen the commercials for "Bob's Burgers", the new Fox show. I have made a wiki regarding it and would like to suggest a partnership?

ShoutWiki

I think the dump's done. 178.111.41.7 18:40, 15 November 2010 (UTC)

Yeah, but not completely. There is something wrong with around 1000 of the images. The staff have been notified. ☆The Solar Dragon☆ 19:03, 15 November 2010 (UTC)

Dude, where's my login?

Hi, Solar, Mythigator here. I'm on an IP because I can't log in. It says my account doesn't exist, but when I go to articles I've edited I can click on my account name in the history and immediately see my page. So what's up with logging into my account? Thanks, Geoff / Mythigator 64.122.207.197 22:06, 15 November 2010 (UTC)

Actual accounts haven't moved. The user pages and talk pages have though. You have to make a new account and resume from there. ☆The Solar Dragon☆ 22:12, 15 November 2010 (UTC)
No joy. "Login errorUsername entered already in use. Please choose a different name." -- 64.122.207.197 22:20, 15 November 2010 (UTC)
Hmm... I'm not sure what is going on. Try leaving a message on here and making an account and filing a bug report here. ☆The Solar Dragon☆ 22:25, 15 November 2010 (UTC)
You don't need to create a new account — in fact, you cannot do so if you try to use your old Wikia username. Just go to Special:UserLogin and login with your Wikia credentials and you should be able to resume editing as if nothing had happened. This functionality is provided by a MediaWiki extension called MediaWikiAuth. If you encounter any bugs or have issues logging in, please contact me immediately. --Jack Phoenix <staff/> (contact) 22:31, 15 November 2010 (UTC)
I seem to be back in business. It looks like I'm going to have to re-upload my saltire avatar, but no big deal. Thanks, guys! -- Mythigator 23:10, 15 November 2010 (UTC)

Concerning the color of the sidebar

I think the color of the sidebar doesn't really match with the wiki, it's too bright and "neon-ish" and it kind of repels the eyes. I think it would be better if it was another tone of yellow. What do you think? Additionally, in all the articles with the episode "tab" template, the sidebar is moved below the article.

Ldude893 10:03, 16 November 2010 (UTC)

Someone has been working on this bug. You can see from recent changes. The colour is the same colour as the content area for me. Could you give me a screenshot of the bright yellow colour then. Is it the same as the colour of the box at the top of my talk page? ☆The Solar Dragon☆ 17:50, 16 November 2010 (UTC)
Actually, it's yellow because I changed it yesterday (maybe you don't see it because of your cache, or something). I just thought the sidebar could use a different color, but you're right, it's too bright. — TheHomer (TalkContributions) 17:54, 16 November 2010 (UTC)
Since I'm not seeing it, could you find a better colour then? ☆The Solar Dragon☆ 17:55, 16 November 2010 (UTC)

Adding templates

How do we add templates to articles, such as adding the Location template to Dracula-la Land? I'm thinking there must be an easier way to do it than by manually typing the code in, but thus far I haven't seen any WYSIWYG interface for editing articles. Is this something that's in the works? Thanks ... -- Mythigator 14:01, 17 November 2010 (UTC)

God, I hope we aren't making that stupid Rich Text editor here. It is fairly simple actually. Just copy and paste the code from Template:Location. The code in the box under Use. Then fill in the parameters. To add navboxes and other templates without parameters, just put {{Template name}} on the article. All infoboxes should have a use section. If not, notify me and I will make one. ☆The Solar Dragon☆ 18:11, 17 November 2010 (UTC)
Also, when making new articles, there should be various preloadable templates via buttons. Click on one of those to bring up the template. ☆The Solar Dragon☆ 18:13, 17 November 2010 (UTC)
That helps, thanks. What I had in mind was the templates for infoboxes such as Character, Location, Guest Star and so on. The parameterless ones aren't any problem. -- Mythigator 18:53, 17 November 2010 (UTC)
Good to hear. Also, when indenting, you usually go one more than the last poster btw. ☆The Solar Dragon☆ 18:59, 17 November 2010 (UTC)

Golden Marge

Golden Marge, for the user who has done a lot of cleanup.

Like it? I believe my image editing skills have gotten much better since the last time I made anything for Wikisimpsons. Anyway, I made this one with a stand underneath, the word 'Wikisimpsons' on the stand (So Simpsons Wiki 'can't/Will be harder to' copy this image for themselves). The stand also has a bit for the receiver's username to go onto as well and this is in higher quality. Let me know if you need anything graphics related we need to do, I don't think Simpsons Wiki will be any good when it comes to image editing and stuff. ----Smiley12 (talkcontribs) AWA Admin.png 08:25, 19 November 2010 (UTC)

Wow. It is great. It will be good once we get more users coming in. ☆The Solar Dragon☆ 14:27, 19 November 2010 (UTC)

A notice on the old wiki

Do you think we ought to put up a notice on the old Wiki directing people to Shoutwiki, or did we do that already? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 119.237.244.81 (talk) 11:48, 20 November 2010

Last time we tried that, it was constantly reverted by staff. I had my admin rights removed too. I might try again if someone gives me admin rights though. ☆The Solar Dragon☆ 11:50, 20 November 2010 (UTC)
Does anybody else have admin privileges? Ldude893 14:54, 20 November 2010 (UTC)
Effluvium, Smiley12, Brian, TheHomer (possibly) and Kingcjc. Kingcjc still works on some Wikia wikis. If one of the others wants to attempt it, they could do. ☆The Solar Dragon☆ 14:59, 20 November 2010 (UTC)
I still have my admin rights there, so I can modify the community corner and replace all content in the main page with "We have moved to ShoutWiki" or something similar. I don't think Wikia staff go to Simpsons Wiki so regularly, right? — TheHomer (TalkContributions) 15:46, 20 November 2010 (UTC)
They will probably notice and revert, remove your admin powers and maybe block you. It depends on whether you are willing to "take one for the team". ☆The Solar Dragon☆ 15:48, 20 November 2010 (UTC)
I don't care if I get blocked on Wikia. Anyway, I already changed the main page and the theme. If staff revert it, any other admin can do it. Besides, they'll sure notice all admins are gone. — TheHomer (TalkContributions) 15:55, 20 November 2010 (UTC)
Cool. Staff will have to revert it if they notice it. No more admins. :P It is going to fall. ☆The Solar Dragon☆ 15:58, 20 November 2010 (UTC)
I no longer care either. I have just replaced a few pages with that message. :P ☆The Solar Dragon☆ 16:04, 20 November 2010 (UTC)
I believe there are some CSS tricks to make all pages blank/show the same message, I don't know how to do them though. ----Smiley12 (talkcontribs) AWA Admin.png 19:58, 20 November 2010 (UTC)
. Do we leave the old wiki to rot and erode away to chaos, or do we wreck the place ourselves? (scorched earth?)Ldude893 00:34, 22 November 2010 (UTC)
That'll happen soon enough without anyone doing anything to that end. I just took a look on there to see what's going on, and some mental giant created a category called "Immergrants" (yes, spelled that way) and added it to a bunch of character pages. If that's the caliber of the new users that Wikia is claiming on their Simpsons Wiki, then I don't think we'll have much trouble kicking their evil patoots. -- Mythigator 20:09, 23 November 2010 (UTC)
Ha. Bit sad that Weedle McHairybug stayed behind though. If anyone can try and contact him, probably via email, that will be good. ☆The Solar Dragon☆ 20:12, 23 November 2010 (UTC)
I'll give it a go Mr. Blackadder 20:37, 23 November 2010 (UTC)
I just took one for the team. Ldude893 06:11, 26 November 2010 (UTC)

Friends

What's the us of this friends thing? Not that i'm against it but does it do anything besides put something else on your user page? ----Gavinator333 16:56, November 20 2010

Well, I guess that it can allow easy access between others user pages. It also is a bit of a popularity tool too I guess. No real use but hey. ☆The Solar Dragon☆ 22:03, 20 November 2010 (UTC)

New Wiki

How come everybody moved to this 'ShoutWiki' Thing, and after all the badges I've tried to earn!? And no I'm not going to sign!ToyStoryFan123

Because Wikia screwed us guys over big time. Therefore, we decided to move away. The skin, the reaction from the staff, the blockes we received for telling users we were thinking of movig all resulted in us moving. ☆The Solar Dragon☆ 20:12, 21 November 2010 (UTC)
I have to admit, adding badges was a pretty clever tactic by wikia. I've seen a few users who were apprehensive about moving because then they would lose all the badges they earned. -- Brian McClure 20:24, 21 November 2010 (UTC)
We shouldn't have enabled them... ☆The Solar Dragon☆ 20:25, 21 November 2010 (UTC)
What do you mean 'we shouldn't have enabled them', that's what made it fun.

And you, yourself earned more badges than anyone else!Toy Story Specia:Contributions/ToyStoryFan123|Fan 19:02,, 22 November 2010 (UTC)

1. your sig is broken. You have a ? instead of a / 2. I don't care about the badges. I only care about this wiki and getting it looking great and working. Making it a real fan site as opposed to a shit hole like the Wikia one is going to be. ☆The Solar Dragon☆ 19:15, 22 November 2010 (UTC)

1. I had greasy fingers the whole time! 2. Don't swear! It's rude!ToyStoryFan123 16:19, 23 November 2010 (UTC)

I have to tell the truth. If that means swearing to tell the truth, so be it. Wikia is a shit hole. An over controlling shit hole full of corrupt staff. ☆The Solar Dragon☆ 16:46, 23 November 2010 (UTC)

Then why on earth did you keep editing on it?!~ —Preceding unsigned comment added by ToyStoryFan123 (talkcontribs) 18:08, 25 November 2010

Because it was the only Simpsons wiki and there was no reason to move away. It took me a long time to realise how bad Wikia is. The staff are over controlling, they force what they want on you etc. If you don't like it, don't bother here. Just leave. ☆The Solar Dragon☆ 18:25, 25 November 2010 (UTC)

Re:

Well fine, Maybe I shall just go watch some Blackadder and never come back ----- It's Magic - Kingcjc 22:31, 21 November 2010 (UTC)

I offered you the chance to come back you know. I hope your replacement would do a better job than you could. ☆The Solar Dragon☆ 22:32, 21 November 2010 (UTC)
Uhhh... what's going on here? Why is Kingcjc going to Wikia and why don't I see any discussions about it here? Did I miss any chat at IRC or what? — TheHomer (TalkContributions) 00:49, 22 November 2010 (UTC)
Come on IRC sometime and I will explain. ☆The Solar Dragon☆ 06:18, 22 November 2010 (UTC)

Promoting Wikisimpsons on other sites

You know, we should try to promote this wiki on other prominent Simpsons fansites and forums like NoHomers.net . That way we can attract more viewers and editors. Ldude893 00:34, 22 November 2010 (UTC)

Template

Hey there. Should I add the template in the sandbox to pages or is it unnecessary. Josegiraffio Want to talk 20:26, 22 November 2010 (UTC)

Not too sure about that. Maybe an expansion on the template. American Towns/Cities and foreign towns/cities on the same template. If you could do that, then it could be added. ☆The Solar Dragon☆ 20:30, 22 November 2010 (UTC)
Is it up to scratch now? Josegiraffio Want to talk 21:21, 22 November 2010 (UTC)
Yeah, that should be fine now. Feel free to create it and add it to articles. Just one thing, you missed out Springfield ;) ☆The Solar Dragon☆ 21:22, 22 November 2010 (UTC)

Something you could make use of.

This wiki format creates a floating box which follows you along the page:

__NOEDITSECTION__
<div style="position: fixed; center:0; bottom:0; display:block; height:200px; width:300px;"><div style="position: relative; width: 200px; height: 200px; overflow: hidden">
<div style="position: absolute; top: 0px; left: 0px; z-index: 1"><ul class="wikia-menu-button">

			[http://tinyurl.com/23eqtm3<font color="white">WE HAVE MOVED HERE</font>]
		<ul>

		</ul>
	</li>
</ul></div></div></div>

It doesn't work here, but you can see it if you preview this if you preview this page.

Mr. Blackadder 21:06, 23 November 2010 (UTC)

A couple of inboxes that would be useful

1) Fictional website -- as in the "Websites on The Simpsons" category. This would include sites like stupidflanders.org and nuclear-secrets.com 2) Movie -- there are several movie articles that have TV Show infoboxes, which shouldn't be. I don't think it would be all that hard to make, as the only difference from the TV Show inbox is that the movie infobox wouldn't need to have a "Channel" data item. -- Mythigator 00:18, 24 November 2010 (UTC)

Exactly. There is only one difference. They might as well use the same infobox then. The websites infobox may be useful but I am not sure how many parameters it would have... ☆The Solar Dragon☆ 06:16, 24 November 2010 (UTC)
So for a movie infobox, I just copy & paste the code for the TV infobox, substitute "movie" for "TV Show" where appropriate, and leave off the "Channel" parameter? I didn't think it would be that easy. No urgency about the websites infobox; I agree it would take some puzzling out to determine what parameters it should have. -- Mythigator 07:02, 24 November 2010 (UTC)
Yep. That easy. You just need to remove the code for channel. and change TV for Movie, yes. If you can think of parameters, tell me. ☆The Solar Dragon☆ 07:10, 24 November 2010 (UTC)
Owner and use? Mr. Blackadder 16:36, 24 November 2010 (UTC)
As well as appearance. Three parameters... ☆The Solar Dragon☆ 16:42, 24 November 2010 (UTC)
I'm thinking six ... Name, image, owner (if known), URL (if known), use, appearance. -- Mythigator 23:23, 24 November 2010 (UTC)
Well, name and image are always there so that means 4. OK, make it if you want then. ☆The Solar Dragon☆ 06:30, 25 November 2010 (UTC)
For the record, I've made the movie infobox template. It's called "Fictional Films" and it's on the list of infoboxes. I'll have a go at a "fictional website" infobox in the not-too-distant future if no one else takes it on. -- Mythigator 18:11, 4 December 2010 (UTC)

Ringo Starr

Nice job of hack & slash. May I inquire as to the rationale? -- Mythigator 16:11, 27 November 2010 (UTC)

This is a Simpsons wiki, it has information about The Simpsons, not general stuff. That is what Wikipedia is for. ☆The Solar Dragon☆ 16:12, 27 November 2010 (UTC)
I saw you made the same sort of change to Phil Hartman's article. Fine job, then. If you're doing these on a hitlist basis, may I suggest Jane Kaczamerak. Her article is not only bloated and mostly irrelevant as far as The Simpsons is concerned, it's also mostly dumped from Wikipedia. -- Mythigator 16:20, 27 November 2010 (UTC)
I will get to that then. I am currently going through all the guest star articles. That will come in time. ☆The Solar Dragon☆ 18:42, 27 November 2010 (UTC)
I'll go ahead and take care of Ms. K's article. I've been wanting to take a (figurative) red pen to it for a while, anyway. -- Mythigator 18:51, 27 November 2010 (UTC)
OK then. My Internet connection is really horrible and slow right now so it is hard to edit. Took me ages to comeplete the Michael Jackson article... ☆The Solar Dragon☆ 18:54, 27 November 2010 (UTC)

Name, on rota

Quick question: What is meant by the notation "Name, on rota" regarding characters' appearances on "The Fool Monty"? -- Mythigator 18:05, 27 November 2010 (UTC)

There was a rota of who gets to have Mr. Burns when he lost his memory. Their names were seen on the rota. ☆The Solar Dragon☆ 18:44, 27 November 2010 (UTC)
Hmmmm, thanks. I think the word "list" would be more generally understandable, though. Since I didn't know what you meant by "rota" in that context, I doubt the average John Q. Public USA reader will, either. But I have an idea to address that without changing all the notations in the character articles. Let me think it over a bit ... -- Mythigator 18:58, 27 November 2010 (UTC)
Feel free to change it if you want. ☆The Solar Dragon☆ 18:59, 27 November 2010 (UTC)
