Cultural references

  • The title is a reference to the Sleeping with the Enemy, a 1991 film.

Trivia

  • When Homer draws a picture of himself it looks similar to his original look. Originally, Homer was going to have a G for his ear and the M on his hair and it would form Matt Groening's initials. However, as explained in the audio commentary for "Lost Our Lisa", the design was dumped as it would be too distracting for fans.
  • Goof: Bart's Capital City quiz is very inaccurate. The test left out Arkansas, even though its capital (Little Rock) is beside California. California's capital is Sacramento, which is beside Colorado. Colorado's capital is Denver, which is beside Connecticut, and so on. In the kitchen scene, Homer complains that Frankfort is not the capital of Kentucky. Marge says it is. Frankfort is the capital of Kentucky. Problem is that the test was only one-page, and it only goes from Alabama to Iowa.
