  • The episode title is a reference to the 1962 nonfiction book Black Like Me, written by John Howard Griffin.
  • Lego Homer says of Maggie, "They're so cute when they're Duplo", a reference to Lego Duplo, a line of Lego bricks designed for very young children.
  • Homer looks at a Perky Patty's Princess Shop playset and Comic Book Guy asks if he is an AMFOP, short for "Adult Male Fan of Princesses". This is a reference to adult male fans of My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic, who are collectively referred to as Bronies.
