Cultural references
- The episode title is a pun on the popular franchise Pokémon. "Pokey" is a slang term for prison.

Trivia
- Sideshow Bob can be seen in the infirmary, wearing a cast that covers him from the neck up.
- Whilst working at the prison, Marge informs Bart that Sideshow Bob will be seeing him very soon. Bart laughs and replies with "Oh, that Bob". Bob would return to terrorize Bart three episode later in "Day of the Jackanapes".
