To Live and Diaper in Springfield is a Simpsons Comics story first printed in Simpsons Comics #35.
Synopsis[edit]
Marge starts a baby day care business, but Maggie gets jealous of baby Gerald, so she escapes.
Plot[edit]
Homer watches a TV show called "Unsolved Cases of Amputation" (showing Van Gogh got his ear cut because of a barber), when a commercial of Troy McClure advertising a new product appears: an aluminium made toilet paper dispenser, which can light in dark, warm the paper and play music, but costs $299,98. Homer wants that for his birthday and asks Marge for one, but she rejects. When she is driving, she listens to an add on the radio about a waitress job, which she could take to pay Homer's gift, but she needs to leave Maggie somewhere. She sees a Krusty day care center, where Kearney "cares" for the kids, who play eating paint while watching The Krusty the Clown Show. After seeing how bad the place is, she decides to open her own day care business at her house. Many parents take their babies with Marge, but one of those babies is Gerald, who often makes Marge think Maggie is doing bad things, by throwing a crayon onto Marge's head, dropping the milk, breaking the lamp or tying Maggie in Santa's Little Helper's tail so she doesn't reach Marge for a hug. Marge gets angry with Maggie because of all the things she thinks she did. Maggie gets sad, so she takes Bart's skateboard and escapes through the dog's door. Marge sees her and asks Ned to look after the kids. Maggie goes so fast through the sidewalk she throws away the police, Apu's sauce boxes and Willie to a manure pile. Professor Lombardo wants to look after the kids after he sees how the kids play with paint. Then Dr. Nick comes. Krusty goes to his day care center, but when he learns all the kids went to Marge's, he goes to her house to fix things. Meanwhile, Marge, Bart and Lisa follow Maggie by car, who is going towards the Power Plant. There, Homer tells Lenny and Carl he is happy because it's been three days since he last hit his head. However, that mark breaks when Maggie hits Homer (actually, he didn't hit his head, a baseball ball did just after that). Marge is very happy to have Maggie again and takes her back home, where she discovers Barney is looking after the kids (and teaching them how to burp). Krusty rings and asks Marge to sell him her business. She does so for $300 (for Homer's gift). Unfortunately, just when they made the deal, Kent Brockman sneaked into the house and reported how dirty and awful the place is and Krusty tell Kent he owns it. After all that, Marge's business is finished and Homer finally gets his toilet paper dispenser. But now, he wants a gold dictionary.
