Synopsis[edit]
- "Lisa feels a need for speed as well a need for control of her anxiety when she becomes a pro kid go-cart racer."
Plot[edit]
The final lap of a go-kart race, which Lisa is taking part in, is going on. Lisa's go-kart is hit, causing her to spin around, but she stays calm and tries to regain control. Two months earlier, Lisa is in the back of Homer's car where she is panicking over his reckless driving. Homer takes her to the Children's Therapy Center where Lisa goes to see Annette, with Homer and Marge also attending the meeting. Annette reveals to Homer and Marge that she and Lisa made a breakthrough, her anxiety is caused by Homer's driving. Homer gets angry at this and leaves, ending up in a car crash.
To get Lisa over her fears, Annette takes her to the Cognitive Behavioral Center to tell her about facing her fears. She then takes Lisa and Marge to the Funland Family Fun Center, which has a go-kart track. Lisa is initially scared and hits the tire wall before getting upset. As Marge and Annette discuss options for Lisa, she starts the go-kart again and begins to enjoy it. She then starts to enter professional go-karting races.
An episode of Kids Formula One: Karts of Thunder, hosted by Chester Arborday, talks about Lisa and her family. Arborday is surprised that Lisa doesn't come from a wealthy family unlike other professional go-kart racers. The episode then starts to talk about Paolo Paoletti, who is the "one to beat" for Lisa. Paolo and the other go-kart racers have to attend Springfield Elementary School while they are in the country, so they can keep up with their education. However, the kids don't fit in due to the culture clash. Bart decides to take advantage of this and befriends Paolo for his money and helps Paolo get everything he wants.
Meanwhile, Homer finishes his community service and goes to see Lisa race. He gets very nervous for Lisa and starts panicking that she's going to get hurt, despite Lisa and Marge both being fine with it. That night, Homer goes to give Lisa her bedtime routine, but Lisa tells Homer that she doesn't need it anymore as she's no longer anxious, thanks to his help. That night, Homer has a dream that he, Lisa, and several kids are racers in Mario Kart and he uses a bomb to knock Lisa off the track.
The next day, Bart and Paolo have a party in Principal Skinner's office. When Lisa goes to ask Skinner something, Paolo sees Lisa and Bart tells him about her, but leaves out the fact that she's his sister. Later, when Lisa goes to get to her race, Homer tries to stop her due to his anxiety over Lisa racing. However, Lisa goes to the race anyway. Before the race starts, Marge reveals to Paolo that Bart is Lisa's brother, which leads to an argument between the two of them. When Bart goes home, he finds out through a group chat that Paolo had sabotaged Lisa's go-kart. Homer quickly drove to the race and entered the course to save Lisa as her go-kart started to fall apart. Homer slows Lisa down so she doesn't crash as she passes over the finish line in first place, winning the race. Paolo decides that racing is stupid and decides to quit, as Lisa thanks Homer for helping her to feel safe. Go-karts crash around Homer and Lisa as they embrace at the finish line.
