- The episode title is a reference to the British nature documentary The Blue Planet. It mirrors the dynamics of the real-world series, featuring narration by Hugh Bonneville in the distinctive style of David Attenborough, who voiced the original documentary.
- The episode was released on April the 22nd to mark Earth Day.
- In the episode select screen, the various icons are:
- Disney+ size, a Disney for plus sizes.
- Marble, a parody of Marvel.
- Cosmic Wars, a parody of Star Wars.
- When selecting if the user is sure to watch it, it asks if the user wants to watch something with Yodas in it.

- Contrary to previous shorts or specials releasing at the same time everywhere in the world, this episode was released at midnight local time.
- A similar episode aired in Futurama, "Naturama", where characters are depicted as animal equivalents.
- The iguana resembling Bart says "Hey, I got born!", similar to how Bender says "I'm born, baby!" in the episode.
- A character who has the same model as Diego from "A Star Is Born Again" is the cameraman filming lions.
