Cultural references[edit]

Enthusiasm on Demand headquarters are based on those of Lumon Industries from Severance. The painting of characters raising their hands to a coffee machine is based on The Exalted Victory of Cold Harbor, part of the symbolism in the series.
  • Many references to Severance are seen throughout the episode:
    • The characters are partially based on those from the series:
    • Enthusiasm on Demand is based on Lumon Industries. Its headquarters are based on those of the series, and symbolism from Severance can be seen on numerous occasions:
      • The face sculpture of The Visionary, a parody of the same sculpture of Kier Eagan, can be seen when Homer first enters the building.
      • The paintings seen are parodies of Lumon's strategy of emotional control through art. The Visionary with the "Productivity" and "Efficiency" commandments is based on Kier Taming the Four Tempers, the piece with characters raising their hands to a coffee machine is based on The Exalted Victory of Cold Harbor, and the piece depicting a chaotic fight is based on Macrodata Refinement Calamity.
    • The typical elevator sequence, running-through-corridor scenes, and the Macrodata Refinement department cubicles are seen.
    • Consonance mentions Project Dark Contrivance, which is a parody of the Cold Harbor project from the television series.
    • The room with a kangaroo holding a baby human in its pouch parodies the goat room of the Mammalians Nurturable department.
    • Consonance leads Duffman, Bart, and Lisa into a room with all the CEOs of EOD. The room is based on the Perpetuity Wing room in Lumon, seen in "In Perpetuity". All the CEOs' names parody those from Severance, with their last names changed into narrative-related terms:
    • The short film during the credits is a parody of the stop motion Lumon is Listening video featured in the episode "Hello, Ms. Cobel".
  • Homer sings a parody of "Song 2" by Blur.
  • Lisa says that the whole place is like one of the puzzle box TV shows like The Leftbehinds (a parody of The Leftovers), Yellowjinx (a parody of Yellowjackets), and Severance.
  • When Bart is performing karate movements, Marge's "konnichi-wow" is a pun on "konnichiwa", the Japanese greeting.
  • The executive in the credits mentions Cthulhu and the Polish złoty.
