- The episode title is a pun on D. H. Lawrence's 1928 novel Lady Chatterly's Lover.
- The Monkeytown Philharmonic play "The Blue Danube" by Johann Strauss II on the kazoo.
- During Abe and Jacqueline Bouvier's conversation, Abe proposes applying "Lister's Carbolic Unguent" on Maggie. This is a pun on English medical scientist Joseph Lister and the carbolic acid (not unguent), which Lister introduced as a steriliser for surgical instruments and patients' skins.
- Bart, Lisa, Milhouse, and the rest of the family sing "The Dogs Kids Love to Bite" by Buck Warnick, an iconic 1967 advertising jingle for Armour Hot Dogs.
- Homer is seen carrying a ArmourTM ad sign.
- The family also sing "I Feel Like Chicken Tonight", the 1992 commercial song for the brand of sauce Chicken Tonight.
- Abe, Jacqueline and the passengers on The Seniorville Trolley are worried of missing Matlock on TV.
- Marge takes a Ross Perot pamphlet away from Homer, referencing Perot's reputation for policy-heavy campaign materials and visual aids during his 1992 presidential campaign.
- Hal Roach Apartments are a reference to American film and television producer Hal Roach, whose career spanned more than 80 years.
- At P. Piggly Hogswine's Super-Smörg, Abe re-enacts the forks with potatoes for legs and feet scene from Charlie Chaplin's The Gold Rush, before the Blue-haired lawyer shows up and says he cannot allow the unauthorised imitation.
