In The Simpsons Movie, the Dome sealed almost all of Springfield and its townspeople from the outside world. There is a large television screen built into the dome the Russ Cargill used to inform Springfield of the goings on twice in the film. Within the dome, there is no weather (Which in a deleted scene) all of Springfield's crops had died. The only ways out of the dome was not through it, but either through a sinkhole in the Simpsons backyard, and a hole in the top of the Dome where an extremely powerful bomb is placed by the EPA to destroy the town and the dome, with only a gigantic canyon remaining. The dome's outer surface was too slippery to climb, which Homer Simpson used super glue on his hands to climb the dome. The dome is made of extremely thick glass, which is almost completely invulnerable to damage. While only the bomb used to destroy the town destroyed it completely, a few other things had or could damage the dome: Stampy managed to ram into it and create a small crack; also, Professor Frink's acid firing super drill could possibly have penetrated the dome, but never was used because it was just outside the dome. To further prevent Springfieldians from getting out of the dome, the location of the city was erased from all GPS systems. The bomb managed to destroy the entire dome, blasting it into billions of specks of glass and a few large pieces of glass, one that landed on Dr. Nick, injuring or killing him. In the deleted scenes, a baseball field was divided in two. The dome was destroyed by Homer and Bart, when they rode a motorcycle on the inner walls of the dome, reching the hole at the top, and throwing the bomb back through the hole, which landed next to the hole.

The Dome being lowered on Springfield
"D'oooooooooooooohme!!"
Homer Simpson[src]

The Dome is a gigantic glass dome placed over Springfield by the US Government and EPA. It is an almost impenetrable object that encased Springfield, which had the highest pollution levels in the world, and resulted in a socioeconomic crisis known as Trappuccino, which was given its own theme song on newscasts.

Springfieldians in the Dome

Description[edit]

The Dome could easily crush people when coming down, as one unfortunate person found out. It had to be transported by loads of helicopters with suction cups holding it up.

It could only be damaged after numerous repeated attacks. There would have been a way to create a hole with Professor Frink's Acid Shooting Ray. However, this was on the other side of the Dome. Repeated attacks, such as Stampy hitting it, could crack the Dome though. The Dome also had a massive television screen, invisible at first, that Russ Cargill, head of EPA, could communicate to Springfield on.

Destruction[edit]

The Dome was finally destroyed by Homer and Bart on the day Springfield was to be blown to smithereens. Homer rode a motorcycle around the Dome with Bart throwing a bomb out of an hole on top (which was previously plugged up). The bomb destroyed the Dome.

Second dome[edit]

Mr. Burns brought in a second dome to cover Springfield with after everyone treated him horribly. He didn't go through with it after he was told that it had already been done before. Lou then states that they could always just dig out of it.[1]

Trivia[edit]

  • It is unknown why the residents of Springfield didn't dig a hole under the dome. A possibility is that the Springfield residents weren't thinking clearly, and just tried to break out of it, rather than digging a hole, or there was a lack of shovels.
    • This is later referenced by Lou in "The Fool Monty" when Mr. Burns was going to put another dome over Springfield. Lou states that they could just dig a way out, although this never occurred to anyone.
