- The episode's name is a reference to the Cole Porter song "At Long Last Love" and the film with the same name.
- As the family drive away from Springfield following their banishment, Lisa reads a book titled What to Expect When You're Ejected, a pun on the pregnancy guide What to Expect When You're Expecting.
- The babies saying "Two babies enter, one baby leaves" is a reference to the quote from Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome, "Two men enter, one man leaves".
- The arcade game Pong '95 is seen in Barney's Bowlarama, a reference to Pong.
- The arcade game Grand Theft Walrus, a parody of Grand Theft Auto, is also seen.

- A parody of the opening sequence occurs after the Simpsons move to The Outlands:
