First appearance: "Four Great Women and a Manicure"

Mediocri-Tots Daycare Center is a daycare center owned by Ellsworth Toohey.

History

When Maggie Roark was a small child, she spent time at Mediocri-Tots. She proved to have a very strong creative gift and built intricate structures out of blocks. This earned her the disapproval of Ellsworth Toohey, who felt very strongly that everyone should be equal—to the point that he tried to quash Maggie's talent by knocking down everything that she built.

Behind the Laughter

  • Mediocri-Tots appears in the "Maggie Roark" segment of "Four Great Women and a Manicure", a re-telling of the Ayn Rand novel The Fountainhead narrated by Marge Simpson and with Maggie Simpson cast in the role of Howard Roark.
  • The daycare center's name is a wordplay on the phrase "mediocre tots" and is a reference to Ellsworth Toohey's strong preference for conformity, to the point of stifling gifted children such as Maggie.
