Cultural references

  • The episode title is a pun on the musical Bye Bye Birdie.
  • The advert for Stabby-Oh's is a parody of Lucky Charms.
  • The scene where the other baby-helping business has to close down is a parody of Titanic
  • During the scene where Marge chases the school bus, Milhouse says, "It's like Speed 2! Only with a bus instead of a boat!", off-handedly summarizing the plot of the original film, Speed.
  • When Bart and Milhouse are making unkind comments about Francine Rhenquist on her first day at Springfield Elementary School, Milhouse says, "Yeah, she thinks she's Babe: Pig in the City", referring to the second movie about Babe the pig.
  • The song playing during the baby-proofing montage is '"Always Safety First" by NRBQ.
  • The "dingo alarm" included in the baby safety equipment refers to a 1980 Australian case where a mother claimed a dingo stole her baby.
  • The grey-haired and -bearded man in the audience that Lisa addresses as Dr. Koop in her presentation is former Surgeon General C. Everett Koop.

Goofs

  • In the chase scene, Milhouse is sitting on the left side (our view), however after Otto reverses to pick up the new kid, Milhouse is on the right side.
    • He could have easily switched seats.
  • In Homer's grade school flashback where he is beating up a young Waylon Smithers, Jr., the musical instrument Barney is shown playing is a recorder, but the sound produced is that of a kazoo.
  • Lisa has 4 Indian burns, then 3, then 4, then it's gone altogether.
  • In a rush, Marge mismatches the shirts of Bart and Lisa (Bart has Lisa's dress and Lisa has Bart's shirt) but in the kitchen it's normal.
  • Francine has a nose clip in the swimming pool scene on CCTV. It disappears when Lisa puts it forward, but then it reappears and she then says "Of course. The nose clips."
