"Homer Alone" is the fifteenth episode of Season 3. The episode aired on February 6, 1992. It was written by David M. Stern and directed by Mark Kirkland. When the family causes Marge to flip out, she takes a vacation from it all at Rancho Relaxo, leaving Lisa and Bart with Patty and Selma, and Homer alone with Maggie. Then, Maggie goes searching for Marge.

Plot

Marge Simpson has been under a lot of stress at home and the family takes her for granted, causing her to lash out by clogging up traffic at the Springfield Memorial Bridge, and causing all of Springfield to see when it is placed on the news (although there is plenty of bumbling as Kent Brockman is bonked around and Arnie Pie drops his bagel). She is placed under arrest by Chief Wiggum, but Mayor Quimby, in a political gambit, pardons her. Later on, Marge sees a TV commercial for a place called "Rancho Relaxo", and decides she needs a vacation. Marge puts Bart and Lisa into the care of Patty and Selma, but Maggie cries and clings to Homer when she is about to be deposited at her aunts, making Lisa comments she should have thought of that. Maggie then stays home with Homer Simpson.

Bart and Lisa are having pain in the care of Patty and Selma - they are fed tongue sandwiches and as drinks they can choose between clamato, Pibb Xtra, (formerly Mister Pibb) and soy milk. Bart has to sleep with Patty (she snores) and Lisa has to sleep with Selma. Homer has troubles feeding Maggie and has to change Maggie's diaper with staple gun. Homer entertains Maggie with a puppet show, but Santa's Little Helper attacks the puppets and so does Homer. Maggie then applauds.

Homer later invites Barney Gumble over to help him, but realizes how much he needs Marge to take care of things, especially when the following morning Homer finds that Maggie has gone missing. Maggie left the Simpson house by herself as she was distressed at the absence of Marge. Homer and Barney then look for Maggie, but can't find her. Homer calls the Department of Missing Babies, then goes to at Marge's sisters to ask Bart and Lisa if they have seen Maggie, and they're desperate to get away, after they are put into slavery by the sisters (as rubbing their feet). After a long search from Homer and Barney, Homer calls a the police to help him. Marge has done everything she wanted to do in her vacation and calls Homer. She tells him she is feeling much better. Homer asks how she would feel if Santa's Little Helper would have run away. Marge says that it would be awful. Homer then tells her some "good news" that the dog hadn't run away. Marge then says that coming back and he should pick her up in one hour at the train station.

Maggie is found on the edge of the top of an ice-cream shop by the police. Chief Wiggum thinks she is trying to commit suicide, but she is actually sleeping next to the statue of an ice-cream cone that looks like Marge's head.

Homer doesn't know it and prepares an excuse to Marge if she comes home and finds Maggie missing. He decides to say "Marge, Maggie was very young. It's not like we got so attached to her...", but doesn't agree with it. Then Chief Wiggum is behind the door and returns Maggie to Homer. Homer then duct-tapes Maggie on car seat and then goes to pick up Bart and Lisa. They cling on his feet so Homer has to kick them into the backseat.

In the train Marge looks at a photo of her family, then compares them to a less-than-happy family which greets her. Later in the bed at night, Marge says that she wants Homer to help her a little around the house, and Homer gladly agrees. Marge then continues staying her requests. Then Bart interrupts her, showing that the kids are sleeping with their parents. Then the family goes to sleep.
