- When Homer is driving over the cliff, a flying car similar to that from the 1968 children's musical adventure film Chitty Chitty Bang Bang is seen.
- The film's theme song, "Chitty Chitty Bang Bang", is briefly heard.
- A character similar to Caractacus Pott (Dick Van Dyke) shouts at Homer.
- When Thayer Blackburn invites Homer to test a Lambuggini, he offers him Smartwater, the popular brand of bottled water.
