- The Jet pack design references the Martin Jetpack.
- The song "Sky Police" is a parody of "Baby Face" with music written by Harry Akst and lyrics by Benny Davis.
- Wiggum described the jet-pack as "the wind beneath my ass", a reference to the song "Wind Beneath My Wings".
- Homer compares deleting e-mail updates from LinkedIn with the fact of God ignoring Bart's prayers.
- After finding out that the insurance company would not cover the damages at the church, Gil Gunderson happily says that the people at the office will be doing the "Saluki Strut" and then cheers for "Southern Illinois". He is referring to Southern Illinois Salukis, the athletic teams from SIU. Southern Illinois Salukis, howere, do not have a strut.
- This university was also mentioned by Gil in "Super Franchise Me".

- This is the second time that the First Church of Springfield catches fire. The first was in "She of Little Faith" from Season 13.
- Marge gambles in the casino but no reference is made to her gambling problem in "$pringfield (Or, How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love Legalized Gambling)".
- When Chief Wiggum destroys the jail, Sammy Hagar can be seen escaping. Sammy Hagar was shown in jail in "Covercraft".
