The Time Bandit! is a Bart Simpson story first printed in Bart Simpson #14.

Plot

Lisa tells Bart that in three days, it will be Mom and Dad's anniversary. Bart remembers what she gave them last year and intends to beat her this year. He goes to Professor Frink to collect money for a gift, and Frink hires him to clean up his lab. He begins to clean up his time machine and accidentally starts the machine, and they both go back in time. Frink asks Bart not to do anything while he gets "Aqua Shell" hairspray to fuel the machine. Bart realizes that his mom and dad have to be his age, and leaves the machine and goes into Springfield. His first stop is at Bard's Gallows, which has started selling comic books. Bart identifies a then-current as a classic, which prompts Comic Book Guy to take an interest in comics. After that he meets Ned outside the current Moe's Tavern. He does not like to see children playing during school hours so he calls the truant officer. Bart continues to trudge through Springfield and sees that Mr. Burns is building a nuclear power plant. He sees a younger Abe tell Jasper that he will going to move into a retirement home, then gets arrested for skipping school.

Bart introduces himself as "Homer" and ends up in Homer and Marge's class. Krusty is a special guest that day. Homer starts by asking Krusty how he can help him with the joke book that he has written, and begins to read it only to be interrupted by Bart showing his ass, and Krusty says that it is the future of comedy. At naptime Bart is still in the classroom. He begins to look into Homer's joke book and Marge's diary, only to be interrupted by Barney, who sees him snooping around. Bart jumps out the window with the joke book and diary, and gets chased by all hte students in the school but after he wraps Snake's skateboard, he manages to escape. Marge and Homer then tell each other that they are sorry that they stole each other's stuff, and they go off together to play kick the can.

Bart comes to the time machine where Frink is ready to go, and he says he barely changed something before they go back. Frink then asks Bart to continue cleaning up, but he says he does not need to do it anymore, and runs away. On their anniversary, Marge and Homer wonder how he got hold of the gift, which he stole from their childhood. Lisa is jealous of Bart because he gave the best gift, but Maggie shows them an even better gift, which makes Bart furious. Lisa whispers to Maggie that because she helped her to beat Bart, she gets an extra cookie for the next two weeks.
