- The episode name is a reference to the fungal skin infection athlete's foot.
Trivia
- The math joke seen on the board (√-1 2^3 Σπ) means "i 8 sum pi" (I ate some pie).
- Skinner burns a cart of books in a book burning machine called the "Anti-Gutenberg 3000", the machine has a temperature display that says 451 degrees. This is a reference to the novel Fahrenheit 451, which is about a dystopian future where all books are burned, along with the houses they are kept in.
