Gnaws is a Bart Simpson's Treehouse of Horror comic story first printed in Bart Simpson's Treehouse of Horror #13.
Plot[edit]
Edna runs on the beach to escape a drunk Moe. During this she flees into the ocean nearby, and is eaten by an unseen creature below, her last words being "still better than necking with Moe". Chief Wiggum investigates the mutilated corpse the next day. Moe believes he may have killed her while he was drunk and runs off, though Wiggum suspects it was a shark or boat propeller. The next day, Skinner is eaten by a briefly seen fish and Mayor Quimby holds a meeting. He claims that whoever catches the fish will receive $200 in gift certificates. The Sea Captain offers to catch it himself for $30,000, a salt wife, a regular wife and a Game Boy. Due to the high expense of his duties, no one agrees to his offer. Afterwards nearly everyone in Springfield hunts for the fish in nearby waters while Fat Tony uses it as an excuse for murder or "chumming". Professor Frink inspects Edna's remains to conclude that it is Blinky the three eyed fish grown into huge proportions due to extensive toxic waste, though only Wiggum hears this explanation. Later Lenny and Carl catch a large shark while Agnes visits the dock. Wiggum apologizes for her loss but Agnes criticizes her dead son for going into the water. Wiggum slaps her for ruining the moment. That night, Frink slices the sharks body using a lightsaber to see if it really is the man-eater. Barney slides out of its stomach but explains that it didn't eat him - he swam inside to escape Blinky.
The next morning both Quimby's wife, Martha, and Otto are eaten. Quimby, however, forced his wife to go into the water in order to find a younger wife. Quimby then forces Wiggum, Frink and the Sea Captain to kill Blinky or they are not allowed back. Wiggum brings his grill and leaves Ralph with a jar of peanut butter to eat while he's gone. Wiggum tries to bring more but the boat is too small to carry anything else. That night the three explain their previous endeavours that lead to scars and wounds. After a day or two the trio find Blinky and try to kill him in amateur ways. The Sea Captin secretly explains that he doesn't know what he's doing but can't let the others know. He fires barrels at Blinky to force him to surface and slams the boat. Frink escapes in a cage while he explains that Blinky must be killed from the inside out. The Sea Captain is eaten as the boat sinks, slipping on the deck into Blinky's jaws. Wiggum throws his grill into Blinky's mouth during the process and fires his gun at the propane tank, blowing the fish to pieces. Frink and Wiggum swim back to Springfield on Blinky's detached eyeballs while Frink worries that the chum from the explosion will attract carcharodon carcharias. Wiggum mistakes the name for dolphins. It all ends with a great white shark, much larger than Blinky, preparing to eat the duo underwater.
