Episode Information
|
"The Springfield Connection" is the twenty-third episode of season 6 of The Simpsons and the one-hundred and twenty-sixth episode overall. It originally aired on May 7, 1995. The episode was written by Jonathan Collier and directed by Mark Kirkland. It guest stars Phil Hartman as Lionel Hutz.
Synopsis
- "There's a new cop in town and her name is Marge Simpson. Her job is to clean up the town of its criminals. Unfortunately, not all the criminals are on the street as Marge soon discovers."
Plot
Homer and Marge attend a concert, where they play the Star Wars theme (whom's composer Homer believes is dead). On their way home, they spot Snake's Three-card monte stand, where all you have to do is pick a red card. Homer places a twenty-dollar bet and loses, but Marge discovers Snake's secret (none of the cards were red), leading to a chase. Eventually, she knocks him out. Everyone cheers for her.
The next day, Marge discovers she needs some action in her life. So, she changes the brand of ham and the magazines she buys. Soon, she decided to join the police. Chief Wiggum trains her and other trainees, but Marge doesn't do what the chief tells her. Eventually, he lets Marge become an officer.
During dinner, Marge tells Homer his theory (that she's the man and he's the woman) is wrong. And the next day, she goes to work. On her first day she does everything by the book, but this causes problems. Her friends even think she's a cop off-duty! She even arrests her own husband for being parked on three handicapped parking spaces.
After Homer is freed, he has a poker game with his friends, but Herman has to go to Homer's garage. When he gets there, he and some other men meet up to try to sell some counterfeit jeans. Marge, however, discovers this and she and Herman fight in Bart's treehouse. When Herman tries to get away on a rope (using the jeans as a zip line), it fails due to the jeans being made of a shoddy material.
The rest of the policemen arrive to take Herman, but they can't due to no evidence. Marge tries to point out there's a lot of counterfeit jeans in her garage, but Chief Wiggum points out that they're gone (in reality however, he and the rest of the officers took them). Marge decided to resign form the police, and Chief Wiggum eventually accepts that.
