No One Gets Over the Underground! is a Radioactive Man comic story first printed in Radioactive Man #222.
Synopsis[edit]
- "It's 1973 and Radioactive Man goes underground to battle student activists and civil unrest as Rod Runtledge (aka Fallout Boy) is taken hostage at a nearby university! But has Fallout Boy dropped out, tuned in, grown a social conscience, and joined the cause? Find out in this trippy tribute to the alternative comics of yesteryear."
Plot[edit]
Claude Kane III goes to see Gloria Grand at WZEN Tower and sees someone wearing a Radioactive Man costume. Gloria is trying to get the actor to play the part of Radioactive Man in a reenactment of Radioactive Man's fights. After the actor quits, Gloria asks Claude to take over, but Claude refuses, as he's worried that Gloria will realize that he is Radioactive Man. Just then, news of a student uprising at Friedrich University comes in, so Claude runs off to attend that as Radioactive Man.
At the university, a streaker goes across, which upsets Dean Michaels. Rod Runtledge, who no longer had his powers and was attending a school trip to the university, tries to make him feel better. Just then, a group called The Undergrounders stormed the university and kidnapped Rod, taking him to the sewers. Radioactive Man then arrives, having apprehended the streaker. He then finds out that Rod got kidnapped.
In the sewers, Rod tries to talk The Undergrounders round into letting him go. Meanwhile, Radioactive Man goes to see Plasmo for help in tracking down Rod. Plasmo isn't in, but his assistant Cheech is. Cheech gives Radioactive Man some advice and Radioactive Man heads off again to stop a bank robbery by The Undergrounders. By the time he gets there, the bank robbery is over. Radioactive Man finds out that Rod took part in the bank robbery. As Radioactive Man is flying around again, he received radio waves to his lightning bolt, so he traces them to the mayor's office. The mayor tells Radioactive Man that The Undergrounders are demanding that Zenith City feed the hungry and shelter the poor. But Zenith City doesn't have the money. Claude Kane II comes in and offers to pay the money, which would make him broke. But Radioactive Man tells him not to and heads off again.
Radioactive Man heads to the sewers where he encounters a strange man claiming to be a journalist. After Radioactive Man questions him, he transforms into Hyper-Hedgehog and fights Radioactive Man. During the fight, Radioactive Man tells Hyper-Hedgehog that he doesn't exist. Hyper-Hedgehog then disappears as Radioactive Man realizes he was a hallucination from the fumes in the sewers. Radioactive Man then hears people nearby and breaks through a wall, finding The Undergrounders. However, the rubble falls onto Rod, who gets injured by it. Radioactive Man rushes Rod to the hospital as The Undergrounders get away. Claude then goes back to WZEN Tower where he finds that Cheech is wearing the Radioactive Man costume for Gloria.
