In a Simpsons episode (Series 8) Homer decides to break away and form his own town, the whole argument starting off over a change in Area Code from 636 to 939. They name the town (originally enough) "New Springfield". Homer makes himself the first, and last, Mayor of new Springfield.

New Springfield was created when, after a dispute about area codes, Homer declared he would create his own town, which he decided to call "New Springfield". The citizens that didn't go to New Springfield then formed Olde Springfield.

After the area code change. Homer and the part of town which had a changed are code left to form New Springfield and the rest of the town that kept the old area code became Olde Springfield.
