Cultural references
- The episode title is a reference to the movie High School Confidential.
- The Mathemagician, whom Martin hires for his party, is modelled after Bill Gates.
- Set faces to stun is a obvious reference to the famous [Star Trek] Mis-quote 'Set Phasers to Stun'
- Peanuts character Charlie Brown can be seen as a candle with half the head melted.
Trivia
- Marge only says 8 words in this episode: "Krabappel", "Oh, my goodness" and "Homer, Bart's up there".
- Bart (who fed his serving to a cat), Lisa (who feigns sickness), Edna and Skinner (who hide in Martin's playhouse) are Martin's only guests who did not get food poisoning.
