Maggie Simpson in: The Longest Daycare (Spanish: Maggie Simpson en: Largo Día en la Guardería) is an upcoming animated 3D short film starring Maggie Simpson. The short will air on July 13, 2012 onwards, before Ice Age: Continental Drift in theaters. A 2D animatic version will be screened at San Diego Comic-Con International during July 2012.[1]

The only known countries where the short will precede Ice Age: Continental Drift are the United States of America and Spain.

Summary

Maggie returns to the Ayn Rand School for Tots where her only friend there is a butterfly. Each baby is put through a security gate and when Maggie goes through, it says "Nothing Special". Maggie is then put in an area of the daycare that isn't great. Baby Gerald, Maggie's arch-nemesis, will make an appearance.[1]

Plot

When Marge brings Maggie to Ayn Rand School for Tots to get babysat, Maggie starts to miss her mother. She ends up being placed in a negative category of children. Maggie, Baby Gerald, and an unnamed child are the only children there. Gerald started to get bored and broke and kills most things he sees. Maggie finds a butterfly that she doesn't want Gerald to kill.

Gerald sees it and starts to chase Maggie around the daycare center. Maggie does all she can to save the butterfly and eventually loses Gerald. At some point, Maggie swaps her blue-colored hair ribbon with the butterfly and she throws it out the window. Gerald drops the blind which he thinks he kills it.

Maggie soon starts to act as if it had died and she was it's death mourning. At that time her mother comes back. They hug and Marge takes Maggie. Gerald, standing there with a victory smile, pulls the blind up and notices it is the blue-colored hair ribbon. Then Maggie's sad face is replaced with a happy one and her "hair ribbon" begins to flap.

Production

The producers decided to focus the short on Maggie as it is hard to make a 20 minute Maggie episode, but easy to make a 4-5 minute short. James Brooks came up with the idea of doing a short, similar to the Pixar shorts. The short is dialogue-free.[1]

On May 24, 2012, David Silverman's Twitter account posted a drawing from the short featuring Maggie.[2]
