The team consists of Nelson, Martin, Wendell, Ralph, Milhouse and is coached by Principal Skinner. The cheerleading squad is led by Leopold and consists of Bart, Janey, Sherri and Terri. The team was created because the state mandated that schools must have an athletics squad. The team had a two-week training session before their first game against Shelbyville. The game was supervised by Superintendent Chalmers and the rest of the state board of education. At halftime, Springfield had 0 points and Shelbyville had 40 points so the state board considered cancelling the athletics squad, but Bart managed to get them to watch the halftime show.
