According to Mayor Quimby, Charlotte had once been named "Hitler City".
Behind the Laughter[edit]
Many American communities with names of German origin were renamed due to anti-German sentiment particularly once America entered World War I against Germany.
Charlotte has had the same name since the city was chattered by the North Carolina General Assembly in 1768 and named for the reigning George III's queen-consort Charlotte of Mecklenburg-Strelitz who was born a German princess.
