Cultural references[edit]
- "The HΩmega Man" is an extended homage to film, The Omega Man, which was one of Mike Scully's favorite movies as a child.[1] In "The HΩmega Man", Homer runs over Johnny and Edgar Winter while fleeing the mutants pursuing him, and he cries, "Die, you chalk-faced goons!" The Winter brothers are both albino.[1]
- The title "Fly vs. Fly" is a reference to the Mad magazine comic strip "Spy vs. Spy". The segment itself is based on the 1958 film, The Fly.[2]
- The creature with 2 butts that comes out of the transporter and Bart being disgusted by the creature is a reference to the Sean Silverstri poem about the positives of a creature like that.
- In "Easy-Bake Coven", the animators referenced the film The Crucible for many of their designs.[3]
- Edna Krabappel is wearing a Scarlet A, which is a reference to the novel The Scarlet Letter.[2]
- Homer is costumed as Jeannie from I Dream of Jeannie.
- "Easy Bake Coven" is loosely based on the Salem witch trials, while the title is a reference to the children's toy called an Easy-Bake Oven. There is a brief reference to the Looney Tunes character Witch Hazel when Marge, Patty and Selma click their heels before flying away on their brooms.[3]
Trivia[edit]
Goofs[edit]
- When the French president pushes the red button to launch the missile, we can see "Le bombe neutron", but in French, it's "La bombe à neutron" or "La bombe neutronique".
- When Maude picks up the gingerbread men, there are 6 on the plate, but when they were on the table, there was 4.
- In "Homega Man", Homer goes into the bomb shelter and does not shut the door, and you can still see it open for a while after he is in there. Herman does not close it behind him - you can tell by his skeleton's position. But Homer opens the door to leave the shelter after he has eaten the food, and it must have been closed for him to have survived the atomic attack, because it vaporised Herman, who was only a few feet away.
- When Homer walks into the shelter, the steak is in a green can. When he comes out after the blast, the can has a yellowish color.
