Freezer Burns is a The Simpsons Winter Wingding story first printed in The Simpsons Winter Wingding #5.
Synopsis[edit]
- The coldest winter in Springfield history has Mr. Burns raising electricity prices through the roof, angering the townspeople.
Plot[edit]
At the Simpson house, Homer is struggling to stay warm in front of the TV as Marge asks him if they can turn up the heat. Homer refuses because the power bill from last month was outrageous. On TV, Mr. Burns announces that Springfield will experience intermittent power outages until the cold snap ends and says that they're largely the result of mismanagement at the Springfield Nuclear Power Plant caused by Homer. Mr. Burns then says that he'll make unlimited heat available at a mere 500% markup, angering the townspeople. Meanwhile, Mr. Burns and Smithers are in Hawaii. Mayor Quimby calls a town meeting to discuss what to do about the power problem.
At the town meeting, everybody in town agrees that they need to light Burns on fire and crucify him. The angry mob marches through town to the Power Plant, with Burns and Smithers having returned from Hawaii to deal with the mob. Burns refuses to do anything about the price increase, and Homer throws an icicle at one of the cooling towers, cracking it. Radiation leaks out of the cooling tower and warms up the town, melting all the snow while everyone cheers for Homer.
A week later, Springfield has year-round summer. However, the people have side effects from the radiation, with Marge having cat-like eyes and a third arm and Homer having tentacles for arms and a long tongue.
