The Dot Com Before the Storm is a comic story first printed in Simpsons Comics #187.

Plot[edit]

Homer dresses up as Mr. Burns so he can drink a beer in the basement without anyone complaining, but it does not end well; everyone recognizes Homer. Homer still takes a beer in the basement, but is discovered by Smithers and Homer accidentally spits out the beer. Smithers tells Homer that he is not allowed there because the computers in the room are connected to the Internet, when the computers start to short-circuit because the beer ended up on the computers, and the Internet stops working. The Simpson family are sentenced to answer questions from the Internet nerds until the Internet is repaired, which takes a couple of weeks.

The first ones to ask for help are Sherri and Terri. Lisa takes them to the library and when they find out that you can borrow books for free, they become happy. Moe wants to see something cute, so Marge dresses Snowball II, Santa's Little Helper, and Maggie as characters from Robin Hood, and Moe thinks they are adorable. Snake then comes over to complain that he cannot download movies anymore, so Bart gives him Homer's movie that he rented and did not return. Marge is in the grocery store, where she meets Professor Frink, who needs to send a message to Professor Varga and he is running out of time, so she follows Frink and delivers the letter. Duffman comes to the Simpson house and says that he would like to see some women, so he is invited into the garage, where he watches Patty and Selma in their underwear.

The next day, the family places Grampa outside the house, where he babbles nonstop. That evening, the whole family is tired of helping everyone, which seems to never end. Homer is forced to make his friends start laughing. The library is now overcrowded with kids. Moe looks at a new outfit that Marge has made but is not happy with the results. Snake comes over for more movies but the family has no more, so Bart gets an idea: he gives Snake videos that he takes from Ned. Marge delivers picture attachments and Homer is forced again to make his friends laugh, but when bins start to chase him, Homer chased his friends with a chainsaw. The next morning the family is so tired that Homer cannot even strangle Bart. The family quickly gets visited by the inhabitants of Springfield. Lisa asks them what they would do if they did not have the Internet. They tell Lisa what they would do, so Lisa tells them that the Internet is good in small doses but can distract you from real life. They realize that the Internet has taken up too much of their lives and they all go to Moe's for a drink. The family is happy that their days as the Internet are now over, and Lisa says that the moral of the story is that we've all got to spend more time living our real lives. Bart adds that you should also stay off mindless time-killing websites, such as www.bongocomics.com.
